We work on impactful campaigns that inspire individuals and businesses to make simple changes that prevent single-use plastic pollution. From Refill to Rethink Periods and Switch the Stick we’re known as the charity that offers practical solutions to turn the tide on single-use plastic waste and protect and preserve our natural world by encouraging and enabling upstream solutions. 

GENeration ReuZe is a space for 18–25-year-olds to step up, speak out, and shape a more circular, just future. This role offers hands-on experience in campaigning, communications, and systems change, with a particular focus on the intersection of periods, health, gender equity, and plastic pollution. 

This role also helps to develop committed, diverse, creative and proactive talent, to support the acceleration of a just transition to the circular economy. 

Role Purpose

As a GENeration ReuZe Leader, you’ll be a powerful voice in our campaigns, with a particular focus on plastic pollution from flushed plastics including; period products and wipes. This role will focus on raising awareness about the toxic impacts of plastic-filled products to influencing government policy, creating creative content, and helping build a future where plastic-free periods are the norm, not the exception. 

You’ll join a passionate, fun and purposeful team, gaining skills, valuable insights and training into working in the environmental sector such as research, political advocacy, campaigning, and co-creating solutions with our partners and communities. This is a unique opportunity to help lead a youth-driven movement that’s breaking down barriers and reimagining how we care for people and planet. 

Your voices, creative content and informed political asks will raise awareness among young people and convince UK government to act on plastic pollution. 

Key Responsibilities 

Campaigning & Policy Impact 

  • Help shape and deliver our campaigns, aligning with wider GENeration ReuZe goals.
  • Co-design and run impactful, youth-led campaigns that centre lived experience and amplify diverse voices. 
  • Support political engagement activities, from preparing briefings to meeting with MPs and decision makers. 
  • Undertake and support research into plastic pollution, period health, policy, and sustainable product alternatives. 
  • Help craft and communicate policy asks pushing for free, clear labelling on plastic-based period products, and pushing for accessible period products for all. 
  • Contribute to or carry out beach cleans, refill return mapping to provide campaign insights. 

Creative Communications & Outreach 

  • Develop bold, inclusive content (videos, blogs, graphics, reels, photography) to challenge stigma and raise awareness. 
  • Support with copywriting, editing, and proofreading across platforms—ensuring accessible and impactful messaging. 
  • Schedule and post content across City to Sea’s channels, monitor engagement, and maintain the content calendar. 
  • Share your voice and story through media, events and external opportunities as a confident campaign spokesperson. 
  • Monitor media coverage and work with designers and agencies to enhance campaign visibility. 

Community Action & Youth Empowerment 

  • Work alongside other youth leaders and grassroots partners to grow the plastic-free periods movement. 
  • Plan and deliver inclusive workshops, events, and community engagement activities.
  • Join training and mentoring sessions to build leadership, advocacy and environmental campaigning skills. 

Programme Delivery & Digital Support 

  • Support programme and event delivery—handling logistics, planning, and stakeholder coordination. 
  • Assist in uploading and updating content across City to Sea’s website, Refill Return app and digital platforms. 
  • Support the digital team with testing or briefing app updates and ensuring user stories are accurately reported. 

Fundraising, Partnerships & Internal Support 

  • Share ideas for new funders, partners, and community collaborations to support campaign growth. 
  • Assist in the development of funding bids and partnership proposals.
  • Contribute to cross-team collaboration and internal reporting (monthly and quarterly).
  • Help manage inboxes, comments and mentions—ensuring timely and appropriate responses. 

Person Specification:

We ensure our arguments are balanced and our positions well researched and supported. And we’re not afraid to challenge the system to protect our precious nature We’re looking for people with: 

  • Commitment and/or keen interest in preventing plastic pollution and protecting the environment 
  • Basic familiarity with software tools, ideally Microsoft Office, Slack, Adobe Creative Suite or similar software. 
  • Positive problem solvers, up for a challenge. 
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • A creative mindset, bringing fresh ideas and perspectives. 
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and schedule activities 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Passionate about equity, the environment, and creating a world where everyone can access safe, sustainable periods.
